Two aspiring co-founders from Brazil discovered that 74% of all deaths in their home country are caused by NCDs (Non Communicable Chronic Diseases) such as Diabetes and Hypertension. The founders identified a massive opportunity to build a digital therapy platform for diabetes and hypertension to cover the 50M+ Brazilians that were already diagnosed with one or both diseases.

Cyndi Williams, founder and CEO of Quin, started a diabetes management platform based in the UK designed to support people with diabetes. The idea was inspired by Cyndi's co-founder who had been living with Type 1 diabetes for over 20 years - together they wanted to shift the focus away from surviving diabetes to living well with diabetes. The founders identified that 99% of diabetes is self-care and decided to focus their service entirely on 24/7 self-management needs of people with diabetes.

They are extracting data from diabetes devices, phones, and wearables, to create complex and rich models of personal behavior, physiology, and psychology to provide hyper-personalised education to their customers 👨‍🔬

The founder and CEO of Defit, Kevin Serou, has been hooked on triathlon after completing his first Ironman Triathlon back in 2013. Founder and CEO of Kalibra, Ivan Vatchkov, started his career in a highly stressful and demanding environment in the hedge fund industry. Ivan quickly realised that he was making a health trade-off and feared that he would follow in the footsteps of his family history with numerous health challenges such as type two diabetes.

What started as a personal passion to discover health and wellbeing solutions for longevity, turned into Kalibra - a platform that turns health data into action. Kalibra uses a digital personal assistant, similar to Amazon Alexa, that asks users questions about their health, and based on the user input, tailors specific health recommendations and actions to improve users' health.

SocialBoat is an app that allows users to play fitness games, while transforming their bodies at the same time.

Swapnil Wats, co-founder of SocialBoat, discovered a fundamental retention problem in the fitness industry - “ 150 million people globally pay $400 annually for fitness, but they drop off within a month, two weeks, or even a week. This is 80% of the total 180 million people that go to the gym.” Swapnil made the comparison to video games “they're so popular today and we love playing video games because they're instant gratification, but in fitness the gratification cycle is too weak.”
