Google Fit API Integration

With Terra's Google Fit web API integration, Terra gathers data from a multitude of sources through the Google Fit unified API, and provides it to your app. You can expect a wide range of collected data points, ranging from users' automatically tracked workouts, to detailed sleep information. This will reflect all data that can be synced into users' Google Fit apps through one simple integration.

Two ways to receive Google Fit data

When data is available from a Google Fit device, Terra sends it straight to your webhook. During your Terra account setup you'll be prompted for a callback URL, and that is where Terra POSTs each payload.

Google Fit does not notify Terra when data changes, so Terra polls it every 5–10 minutes for each connected user and POSTs the normalized payload to your webhook.

Terra API preserves the raw data from the wearable, it just standardizes the units and the json format. It doesn’t augment or change the raw data in any way.

Data is organized into one of 6 data types.

People Often Ask Us...

How do I access Google Fit data through an API?

Google Fit is a web API integration, so no app install is needed on your side. Your user authorizes Google Fit through the Terra widget, Terra reads everything that syncs into their Fit account through Google's unified Fitness API, and each normalized payload lands on your webhook. The same data is available on demand over the Terra REST API.

How quickly does Google Fit data reach my app?

Terra polls Google Fit every 5–10 minutes for each connected user, so new data reaches your webhook within that window of a device sync.

What data is available from Google Fit through Terra?

Through Terra's Google Fit integration, you can access activity, body, daily, nutrition and sleep data.

Do I need my own Google Cloud project to use the Google Fit API?

No. Terra manages the Google Fit API credentials, so there is nothing to register with Google before you start reading data. Your users authenticate with their own Google account through the Terra widget.

Which devices show up in a Google Fit integration?

Whatever the user has connected to Fit: Pixel Watch, Wear OS watches, Pixel and other Android phones counting steps in the background, and third-party apps that write into Fit. Terra reads Google Fit as a single source, so all of it arrives through one integration rather than one per device.

How much does the Google Fit API integration cost?

Nothing on top of your Terra plan — every plan includes unlimited integrations. Terra pricing is credit-based, with 100,000 credits included each month and usage-based rates beyond that, and every plan carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
