Hackers with hackers

At Terra, we have a strong tradition of participating in Hackathons. You see, being hackers ourselves, we are always around hacking with the new generation of hackers.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology: Hack MIT

Last week, we participated in the biggest hackathon in the US, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with HackMIT.

Harvard University: Harvard Hack

HackHarvard x Terra: We sponsored Harvard University's Hackathon last week with the Terra API SMASH Challenge.

Stanford University: TreeHacks24

We gave Stanford hackers the challenge of building with dynamic health data... and doing pull-ups in the rain!

Engineering driven thinking

Here are all the secrets of how we work - and what we search for in interviews

When thinking in first principles, and building via feedback loops, you immediately discover that everything is buildable, and everything is possible. So you default to yes. It's not a question of if we should build something difficult, it's a question of how we do it. And when you think about ‘how', then you become resourceful.

How we work:

First Principles Thinking
In engineering, when solving a problem, we tend to think from first principles. This helps to have a good foundation and a strong starting point. 💪
Feedback Loops
After building a product, it is important to continuously improve it. Using feedback loops within the development cycle allows for consistent iteration and improvement of the product.
Rate of Learning
As well as improving our product, it is key to continuously improve ourselves. We do this by challenging ourselves and always building products with a "default to yes" mentality.
Getting Things Done
Getting things done is integral part of our culture. Deep work is heavily encouraged within our team, staying efficient with your time and working smart is foundational for getting things done.

Team Culture

Skin in the game, Deep work, Thinking Fast and Slow, and the Barcelona way are some of the books behind our culture. Here’s the team reviewing some of them

Skin in The Game

Skin in the game is a book about the importance of having a stake in your ventures. See Daniel's review of Skin in The Game.

Deep Work

Deep Work by Cal Newport explores the ability to focus without distraction on cognitively demanding tasks. Checkout Cameron's review to see how we apply this at Terra.

Antifragile

Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb introduces the concept of antifragility—systems or entities that thrive and improve in the face of adversity.
