Suunto API Integration

With Terra's Suunto web API integration, you can expect real-time updates when a user finishes their workout. Your users' detailed workout information will be synced on an immediate basis after every activity, and the Suunto API integration will send you data such as detailed distance information, calories burned, and even power generated through the workout, for activities where this is relevant. Furthermore, you will receive users' steps and calories throughout the day on every sync with the cloud.

Two ways to receive Suunto data

When data is available from a Suunto device, Terra sends it straight to your webhook. During your Terra account setup you'll be prompted for a callback URL, and that is where Terra POSTs each payload.

Suunto notifies Terra as soon as new data is available, and we POST the normalized payload straight to your webhook. No polling needed.

Terra API preserves the raw data from the wearable, it just standardizes the units and the json format. It doesn’t augment or change the raw data in any way.

Data is organized into one of 6 data types.

People Often Ask Us...

How do I access Suunto workout data through an API?

Suunto is a web API integration built on Suunto's cloud. Your user connects their Suunto account through the Terra widget, and every activity their watch uploads is normalized by Terra and POSTed to your webhook. Historical and on-demand reads run through the Terra REST API.

How quickly does Suunto data reach my app?

Suunto notifies Terra as soon as new data is available, so the normalized payload reaches your webhook within seconds of the user's device syncing.

What data is available from Suunto through Terra?

Through Terra's Suunto integration, you can access activity, daily and sleep data.

What data does the Suunto integration return?

Completed workouts carry detailed distance information, calories burned, and power where the sport reports it, and Terra also delivers the daily step and calorie totals plus sleep summaries the watch records between sessions.

Do I need my own Suunto API credentials?

No. Terra manages the Suunto API credentials, so there is nothing to register with Suunto before you connect your first user.

Which Suunto watches are supported?

The integration reads through the Suunto cloud rather than any single model, so anything that syncs to the Suunto app is covered — the 9 Peak and 9 Peak Pro, the 7, 5 Peak and 3 range, and older Ambit and Core models.
