Meet the winner: Alex Owusu

The winner of this month, Alex Owusu, representing the Computing department of Imperial College, won the grand prize of an Apple watch and a tour of our offices.

Congrats on winning the 1st edition of the Terra Athletes Challenge!

Thank you! It was really cool to be invited down to the office and receive an awesome Apple watch and a Terra hoodie as well.

You can come by any time - could you let us know who you are, where you are from, and what you study?

My name is Alex Owusu, I'm a second-year student at Imperial studying computing. I was originally born and raised in Gloucestershire, Cheltenham, and I studied Natural Language Processing and Mathematics for my A-levels.

Awesome - could you expand on any societies you're involved in?

I'm the President of DocSoc (Imperial's Computing Society), and funny enough Terra is actually the official sponsor of our society. We recently organised IC Hack 23 which was really fun to be a part of.

Why did you join the Terra Athletes Challenge?

I first noticed that one of my friends from DocSoc, Rishav, was involved in it and I got curious to check out what it was all about. It was also a fun way to be more active and I already measure my steps from wearables. Lastly, it was really cool to compare against my peers and try to beat them, haha!

What was the most fun about the challenge?

I think seeing the leaderboard updates at night before I went to bed and how it would impact how much I needed to walk the next morning to win, haha! Luckily, I was in the middle of organising IC Hack during the challenge which required me to walk around a lot which probably helped me out in the end.

Any other hobbies outside of school?

I love rock climbing, and being outdoors. I also enjoy cycling and running and hopefully, these could be a part of the Terra Athletes Challenge in the future, that would be really cool!
