Finally, a comprehensive list of wearables that track your menstrual health
One of the most important measures of women's wellness is their menstruation cycle. Whilst a missed period is the first indication of pregnancy for many women, the more intimately you know your own body and its cycles, the more easily you can recognize when something changes. A change in menstrual cycle is often the first obvious symptom for a number of women's health issues, some of which aren't even connected to the reproductive organs.
Irregular menstrual cycles can indicate hormone and/or thyroid issues, liver function problems, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes or a host of other health conditions. Women also commonly miss periods or experience menstrual changes when adopting a new exercise routine, gaining or losing a significant amount of weight, or simply going through a period of extreme stress.
Tracking the cycle is therefore extremely important, and there are many wearables that track menstruation data today.
For example, the Oura Generation Three uses body temperature changes throughout the month to predict periods. During the menstrual cycle, body temperature generally decreases during the first half whilst ovulation causes the body temperature to sharply increase and menstruation causes it to decrease. Oura's hardware allows precise and consistent measurement of body temperature and allows unique alternating patterns to be reflected back to produce a reliable digital diary.
Other wearables that track menstruation data include Fitbit Sense, Garmin series, various Samsung series (all logging only).
There are also apps and online trackers on the other end to help you track your data over time, and choose how detailed you want to be with your information.
For example, Clue has 31 tracking categories, Glow has a colourful and advice-oriented interface, Flo Health provides accurate cycle predictions with personalised daily health insights.
These devices can empower women to stay on top of their cycles and understand how it influences their health and wellbeing.
Through the Terra API, we provide connections to a range of different devices so that your users can track their menstruation data.
