How can I get started with the RT SDK?

Please help me setup the real time streaming SDK. How would I setup websockets on my server to listen to the heartbeat and do I need to develop a WatchOS app to get it working.

Also do I need the TerraiOS sdk as well as the TerraRt sdk if I don't use the unified API?
